We are professional lighting designers and members of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). We actively attend conferences and local events to stay resourced and in the know with co-leaders in our industry through continuation in design education and professional practice. The IALD sets the global standard for lighting design excellence and is acknowledged as the hallmark of professionalism within the lighting design industry.

As professional lighting designers, Studio Adelia operate at the highest level of professional practice within the lighting design industry. Founding principal Addie Smith is a Certified Lighting Designer (CLD).

The Certified Lighting Designer certification is the first evidence-based certification in architectural lighting design in the world. The certification process is designed to assess whether an individual is able to operate as a lead architectural lighting designer in a professional and proficient manner, as demonstrated by a jury approved portfolio of exhibits and written defense.

We are actively engaged contributors of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) - we volunteer on the IES Hospitality Technical Committee, IES Residential Lighting Technical Committee, and Co-Committee Leader for the Immersive Spaces sub-committee. We regularly attend education webinars, local events, and present as peer leaders in the Denver IES Chapter.

The Illuminating Engineering Society is the recognized technical and educational authority on illumination across more than 60 countries. Through their American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited process, they publish and maintain the Lighting Library®, with over 100 standards written by subject matter experts in technical committees.

As visual consultants of light and shadow, we specialize in the art and design of landscape lighting design. Founding principal Addie Smith is a Member of the International Landscape Lighting Institute (ILLI), studying under the practices and principles of Janet Lennox Moyer, renown landscape lighting designer.

The International Landscape Lighting Institute's mission is to promote excellence and advance the art of outdoor lighting where every space is thoughtfully illuminated with Dark Sky principles for safety and appreciation of the nighttime environment.

Sustainable design is at the heart of good design. Our designers maintain credentials as LEED Accredited Professionals.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the world's most widely used green building rating system. LEED certification provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings, which offer environmental, social and governance benefits.

Studio Adelia is an avid supporter of Women in Lighting + Design. Our founder is a board member, and served as the 2023 President of the Rocky Mountain Region Chapter.

Women in Lighting Design (WILD) is a national organization that advocate for equity, dignity, and autonomy for women and the benefits of gender-balance within the lighting design industry. They are committed to empowering members by increasing representation, amplifying voices, and providing a safe and supportive network for personal and professional growth through connection, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing.

Studio Adelia is certified through the City of Denver as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE), Minority/Woman Business Enterprise (M/WBE) and Emerging Business Enterprise (EBE).

The certification allows Denver area small businesses to compete for construction-related projects funded by the City & County of Denver.
